Microsoft Skype is a popular application for text chat, video chat, group video and text chat, SMS, screen sharing, file sharing, voice calls to telephones or mobiles. All you want is a Skype account, you can get one from here at free of cost. Skype application is available for most of the devices such as Computer – Windows, Linux, Mac; Mobiles, Tablets – Android, iOS; Playstation, Television. So you can use any device to communicate.
Now I’m going to tell you how to install Skype in Ubuntu 15.04 Linux. Added screenshots especially for linux beginners.
From the launcher, go to Software and updates
Navigate to Other Software and enable Canonical Partners, click close button.
To install software and updates from newly added sources, you have to reload the information by clicking Reload button. Now system will prompt you the user password. Please enter to proceed.
Now your system download and update the cache and it will take some time to complete depends on your available internet speed
After the update, you can install Skype in two methods using Ubuntu Software Center and command line interface. You can follow any one as like your wish.
Install Skype using Ubuntu Software Center
Go to Ubuntu Software Center from ubuntu launcher
Search Skype in search box and install. It will take some time to install depend upon your available internet speed.
Install Skype using Command Line Interface
Open Terminal from ubuntu Launcher and update the repository
sudo apt-get update
Now install Skype
sudo apt-get install skype
During installation, Skype will install additional dependency packages so it will take some time to complete. Once it completed, you can open Skype from ubuntu launcher or use command “skype” to open.
